In this digital age, taking photographs and sending them anywhere in the world has become too easy. If you can take better photographs, you can sell them to newspapers and news magazines. You just want to know what are their requirements.

From our city, about 15 daily newspapers are being published, out of which 10 are highly circulated. Beside that, there are more than 50 other periodicals including weekly, fortnightly and monthly magazines. They all require photographs on various subjects. Although most of them have their own photographers, they buy photographs also from freelance photographers. So there is a great scope to freelance photographers.

This is not limited to my city. Many newspapers and magazines are being published from every big city of the world. So there is a local market for every freelance press photographer living in big cities, and also in medium and small cities.

Further, you do not have to rely just on local market. In today's world of internet, it is very easy to sell your photographs anywhere in the world.

What Types of Photographs They Want?

Here is a brief list of the types of the photographs the newspapers and magazines require.

News Photos: The most important requirement of newspapers and news magazines is news photos. News photos include photographs of various events and happenings related to sports, inaugurations, speeches, accidents, achievements, agitations, celebrities, politics, problems in the city, announcements and many many other subjects. You can make a news out of various things. You just have to write the news in brief and mail to newspapers with the photograph.

Portraits: All newspapers and news magazines are in need of good portraits and close ups. They stock such photographs and use whenever they publish a related news. Many other magazines require portraits of beautiful women and girls, celebrities, children etc. to publish on covers and prominent pages.
