Sanskrit lovers say that Sanskrit is the language of Gods, and so it is eternal, i.e. it exists from beginning of the universe.
But is the language God's own language? And does it exist from the time immemorial?
V K Rajwade, a scholar of ancient history, sociology and Linguistics has written his forthright views on this issue in his famous Marathi book Bharatiy Vivah Sansthecha Itihas (History of Indian Matrimony) as following:
Before Vedic Age, many non-vedic languages existed in India. As Panini was lacking of historical vision, he thought that there was no universe and time before the Veds.
Logically speaking, all the spoken and written languages in the world are made by human beings only. But Vedic Bramhins succeeded to establish the theory that Sanskrit was the language of Gods. They told the people that the Gods understand Sanskrit language only, so only Sankrit Prayers and Mantrs can reach to them. They spread such things because of their selfishness. Common people did not know this language, while Gods knew only Sanskrit language. On the other hand, the Brahmins knew both of the languages, Sanskrit and the language of people. It gave a great Job opportunity for Brahmins as only they were capable of working as interpreters between Gods and human beings. For this unique work, they were going to get good remuneration, plus the things the people offering to the Gods.
The reason of banning others from learning Sanskrit language was to restrict them from being competitors in this Job opportunity.
In fact, saying that Gods do not know languages other than Sanskirt was to demerit them. It is a different thing that the God exists or not, but whatever concepts about him are world over, he is said to be a omniscient, i.e. all knowing. So he knows all languages, including those of animals. He knows even the things going on in your mind. But the Vedics disposed such a great concept about God and made him their dependent.
So Sanskrit is the language of Gods is just a myth created by Vedics to make the masses fools and take benefits of it.
