Have you Wathced?

Yesterday I wrote an article ‘Why People like War Movies? With subtitle ‘Is it Just an Attraction towards Violence?’

Now let me tell you about my favorite war movies.

Saving Private Ryan
Directed by my favorite Director Steven Spielberg, this is on top of my favorite war movies. I love this movie because of the story with historical facts, perfect war scenes and superb acting by Tom Hanks and supporting actors. I have watched this movie for many times.

Wind Talkers
This 2002 film directed by John Who is full of actions and emotions, based on a US Navi Mission at Saipan in World War II. Most of the war scenes in this film are thrilling.

Brest Fortress
This is Russian film, based on a battle at Brest in World War II. Although I do not understand Russian Language, I understood the story. I salute the people of Brest for their resistance of invasion by Nazis. The invasion by Nazis shown in this film horrible and makes us angry.

Tora Tora Tora
This is a Japanese film based on Japans air attack on Pearl Harbor. I got a CD of this film in a movie library and immediately bought it as I had heard about it from my friends that it was a must see film. I was not disappointed while watching this. Superb story, superb direction and horrible war shots.

Border, a Block Buster Hindi war movie
Border, a Block Buster Hindi war movie

Tango Charlie
This Hindi movie is a story of two soldiers of Border Security Force who have to fight against terrorists, rioters, naxalites and finally they have to save a bridge at border from the enemies. The director is successful in giving details of the odds in every situation. Action scenes are horrible.

Border
This is my favorite Hindi war movie. It is based on a true story. In 1971 about 1500 Pakistanis attacked a post at Longewala at night with more than 40 tanks. At that time, there were just 120 Indian soldiers on the post. Air support was possible only at morning. This is the story of how the 120 solders fought with enemies until morning and how the pilots of Indian Air Force finished the battle with destroying enemy tanks. This battle is famous as Battle of Longewala in Indian history.

Guns of Navarone
Although the war scenes in this film are not much attractive, the story is good one. I like this film for the planning, its implementation and success by the team.

Lakshya
It is a Hindi film by Farhan Akhatar. Based on Kargil war of 1999, it is realistic one. Rhitik Roshan has played a young army officer in this film. A must watch film.

Mohanlal in Kurukshetra
Mohanlal in Kurukshetra

Kurukshetra is a Malayalam movie based on Kargil war of 1999. Mohanlal has played the role of Colonel Mahadevan. Although I do not understand this language, I was able to understand the story. Director Major Ravi has done a good job by focusing on the detailed accounts of the war.

Indian Army honored Mohanlal by Lieutenant Colonel Post for his work in this film. A must see film.

Beside these five movies, I also like Enemy at the Gates, Troy, Brave Heart, Hindustan Ki Kasam (Old, Hindi) and Black Hawk Down.

Saving Private Ryan really got me caught up in the not just the story but the entirety and emotion of the film. Tom Hanks is an astounding actor and as always, he did not disappoint in this heroic tale of the search for a young soldier. What captured me was the fact that this group of men who knew nothing of this soldier risked their lives to go and send him home due to the fact that his two brothers were both killed in action. Throughout the story, you are sucked in to the struggle of each soldier and the skill of their handiwork. Two specific scenes always stay with me from the film as they are in my eyes the most devastating parts of the film. First off, there is the sniper who is to say the least a very skilled and has seen his share of battles who goes to the tower in one of the battles and is merrily picking off Viet-Cong until the tower blows up along with him in it. Secondly, at the end after Tom Hanks character has completed his mission and found Private Ryan he dies there on the bridge, which is a very powerful moment. This film should be seen if you have not seen it. I love film and am always seeking out ways to get my hands on good well-done movies. When talking with a colleague of mine that who also works for Dish Network about the October 1st launch of Dish Network’s new package filled with movies and DVD’s making life even more fun for movie lovers I was thrilled. It seems like they are always coming up with fantastic ideas especially for individuals like me who are so passionate about film and are always looking for old and new titles to take me on an adventure. The BLOCKBUSTER Movie Pass is a combination of DISH Platinum and BLOCKBUSTER by Mail, which gives me access to thousands of DVD movies and TV necessary for a movie buff such as myself. Therefore, I can stream to my laptop remotely so many titles while getting thousands of titles with unlimited access through the mail. Lying back on my couch with my cat has always been the ultimate relaxation for me. http://www.dishsupport.com/1316888448399.html

Ah, Saving Private Ryan. Possibly one of the best war movies ever made. No, no, one of the best movies ever made! The camera style actually make you feel like you are part of the story. When I first watched it, I cried at five separate parts. I cried the hardest when Wade died :'(

It's just such an emotional film, you get caught up in everything. And it's pretty realistic. You wouldn't think it had been made in the 90s, it looks like such a modernly made movie.

It's my favorite film of all time, next to The Dark Knight.
