China, India, Brazil, Iran: Superpowers of the Future
80For last many years, a discussion is going on in print and electronic media that who will be the next super power. The list of superpowers includes names of many countries. But I think, that not any single country will be a superpower in the world in future, as their will be many powerful countries in the world. Powerful in the sense of economy, science and technology, military, culture and so many things.
But many countries can never become powerful, and few will surely become. This will depend on two things. First is the population and second is the geographical area. Population and geographical area are two most essential things to become a super power.
Let us have a look at the list top 20 countries who have a large number of population and a list of top 20 countries who have biggest geographical area.

Coming Super Powers
Now let us see the common names in both of the lists. They are:
1. China
2. United States
3. Russia
4. India
5. European Union
6. Brazil
7. Indonesia
8. Iran
9. Mexico
This is the list of the countries, who will be powerful countries in the world in near future. This list is not according to Ranking, we need a complicated calculation for it.
Most list of future superpowers have ignored Mexico, Iran and Indonesia, but we should not ignore these countries as they have potential of being a superpower.
There is another country which I would like to add to this list, and it is Congo from Africa

I definitely think there will be big changes in the future. China is certainly becoming more powerful. They are quite isolationist right now, which I think leads people to often forget how rich and powerful they have become.
The US is strong militarily but very weak economically. Military power can take a country only so far. China is very strong financially and continues to build its military might. The US owes China trillions and has no way of repaying its debt. To my mind, China will be the next number one super power.
pakistan also have large area and population.
moreover pak gets petrol at low cost bcos of islamic brotherhood.
pak has good relations with china and also have non war act with russia.
pakistan also have plenty of natural resources in Baluchistan.
nuclear power,improved air force.
Pakistan is changing it's aggressive statergy slowly.
otherwise pakistan also have a chance to be a super power.
but i think pakistan unnecessarily prolonged it's development.
I totally agree that there are going to be many big changes in the powers of the future.
I think that IRAN cannot be ignored. They might be seen as a "threat" to many nations, but that doesn't mean they won't be a super power in their own right.
Might I ask why Congo?
And I'd think Brazil might be a place to keep an eye on.
forget China. coming superpower is Turkey. Russia is only military superpower. Iran is a Shia State. Why we not put North Korea to superpower? haha .. Iran, North Korea, Pakistan = no superpowers.
Hello Jai,
This hub is really interesting..
I'm not fond of reading this stuff but you got me on this one.
King Philip IV
I'd say South Africa might be a superpower one day if it can resolve its economic inequalities which are still connected to ongoing problems with race and the legacy of apartheid.
Can't see Indonesia being a major power: the country holds together only because of massive amounts of US aid and the fear of the military. If the US collapses - and I believe that's very likely because of widespread poverty and discontent there - the aid will disappear and it becomes a matter of time when, not if, Indonesia collapses. Irian Jaya will break away first and then the Maluku territory will follow.
If Turkey plays its cards right and does not ally further with Israel, it can be a major power in Central Asia by forming an alliance with Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan and provide a model for those countries to change from the virtual monarchies they are at present to a more democratic structure.
Brazil may be a superpower but it must address its social and economic inequalities and do a better job of looking after its natural resources. I think land reform might be a key issue. And the country must also look to its south: Argentina could be a major power in the future.
There's been no talk of Australia being a superpower but if that country can cut its psychological apron-strings to the US and the UK, there is potential for superpower status. Solar energy and other renewable energy sources may be the foundation of future economic success and superpower success depends on a sound and viable economy.
You know what this might sound rather out there but I think Nigeria might become a Super Power
I think China is the next Superpower because it is financially strong and militarly booming. But even Egypt shouldn't be ignored..
@Jennifer are you serious?... I think you should learn and read more about Indonesia today. Indonesia does not depend on US aid for you know, Indonesia has a very large natural resources, even more than other countries. Do you know the biggest coal exporter in the world is Indonesia?, Or do you know 40% of the world's geothermal reserves are in Indonesia?. Other than supported by a resource and commodities, Indonesia's economy is also supported by manufacturing, where Indonesia is the 15th largest manufacturing country in the world. So I hope you don't always look down on Indonesia. And I want to ask you, how much US aid contributing to Indonesian GDP which is about 1.12 trilion dollar in 2011?
australia would in no way be a military superpower, but it could very easily be a financial superpower.
You are right Sir (I am from Pune --9225734459)
It is nice to get Super Power status but shouldering responsibilities is also a important factor. To sustain growth of economy and good governance is the key issue, where India ,China and above countries are still lagging and our democratic set up is still flawed and our internal differences we must close. we should look outward get involved in development of developing nations across Africa, South America and Asia, then we can lead them and can claim to be a real superpower. Our military strength should be as per super power status and defense expenditure should not be a issue of debate and political rhetoric.
Yes India can lead and without military intervention and balance the world. Thank you Sir.
India will be the most powerful country of the world financially because india use 2 be the richest country in the past and its a fact that history repeat itself and now we got the 2nd largest miltary of the world.

At the moment US is the super power. Before it was the Soviet Union. And yes, there is no reason to place India above United States. India is the 7th largest country too. Thanks!
